ProTek Devices has launched two robust 15kW transient voltage suppressors, designed to meet critical military standards specifically for 28V aircraft circuits.
The two models introduced are the PAL704-P15K36 and the PAL704-P15K36T. The PAL704-P15K36 features dimensions of 50 x 19 x 12 mm and weighs 30g, equipped with flat terminals. In contrast, the PAL704-P15K36T has a larger footprint of 63 x 23 x 17 mm, weighing 48g, and is fitted with turret terminals. Both models are rated for 15kW with 10/1,000 µs pulses; however, the PAL704-P15K36T is capable of handling higher power pulses for durations exceeding 1 ms, such as approximately 5.6kW at 10 ms compared to about 4.5kW for its counterpart.
The power rating for these devices is specified at 25°C, with performance declining linearly to 40% at +150°C. Both suppressors can withstand operating temperatures ranging from -55°C to +150°C. They also feature a stand-off voltage of 31.5V, with a maximum leakage of 10µA, and a minimum breakdown voltage of 36V. Under maximum rated current conditions of 300A, the maximum clamping voltage is 53V.
The models differ not only in size but also in their forward voltage characteristics. The PAL704-P15K36T experiences a voltage drop of 15V under 8.3 ms 100A pulses, while the PAL704-P15K36 drops significantly less, at just 3V. Importantly, both devices undergo 100 percent testing to ensure reliability.
These devices are essential for aerospace engineers, military contractors, and manufacturers of electrical systems for aircraft, all of whom require dependable circuit protection. Additionally, they are expected to serve civilian contexts, such as providing lightning protection for equipment in rural or remote transmission lines. With over 30 years in the industry, ProTek Devices continues to innovate from its base in Tempe, Arizona.
