A newly introduced  power amplifier offers linearity, efficiency, and reliability for sub-GHz wireless applications, with a compact design, wide frequency range making it ideal for industrial and IoT systems.

CML Micro has expanded its SµRF line of sub-GHz MMICs by introducing the CMX90A006, a high-performance 2 W power amplifier designed for superior linearity and reliability. This new power amplifier is specifically optimised for ISM (915 MHz) and SRD (868 MHz) band wireless transmitter applications, making it a valuable addition to various industrial and IoT systems. It is a two-stage indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) device. It operates efficiently on supply voltages ranging from 2.5 V to 5.25 V, allowing for flexibility in system design and compatibility with single-cell Lithium batteries, making it ideal for portable devices.

The key specificsations include:

  • +33 dBm output power
  • 1 dB gain compression point (P1dB)
  • Wide frequency range from 860 MHz to 930 MHz
  • Compact 4×4 mm Very-thin-profile Quad Flat No-lead (VQFN) package

This power amplifier is built using advanced InGaP HBT process technology, which ensures good reliability and optimal efficiency. It delivers 52% power-added efficiency (PAE), with 33 dB of small-signal gain and an output third-order intercept (OIP3) of +42 dBm at 26 dBm per tone. Such performance makes it well-suited for many applications, including UHF RFID readers, smart metering, and other battery-powered IoT devices operating in license-free UHF bands.

Due to compact dimensions it is ideal for space-constrained designs. The RF input is internally matched to 50 Ω, reducing the need for additional components. The company offers an EV90A006 evaluation board, equipped with an output matching network, to assist engineers in optimizing the amplifier for specific applications. It provides extensive support, including a detailed datasheet and global assistance through its sales and applications teams. The amplifier and its evaluation board will be available via leading distributors like DigiKey, Mouser, and RFMW, ensuring easy access for engineers and developers worldwide.
